Hello fourth grade students and families!
My name is Courtney Wolcott and am thrilled to be back to Monforton for another fun-filled fourth grade year! I am in my 9th year of teaching and have taught in Massachusetts (where I am originally from), Wisconsin and now Montana. After finishing my Masters in Education in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I continued west to Montana and I feel very fortunate to have landed at a school as wonderful as Monforton!
Aside from teaching, I love to be outside any chance I get! I love to hike, bike, ski, camp and fish with my husband and our dog, Dacks. I also love to read and am always looking for new books for our classroom library. On perfect summer night, you will find me with the newest Kate DiCamillo book camping by the river with my family and friends.
I will use our google classroom as a place to post announcements and show you some of the cool things we are doing in the classroom! Please look for an email at the start of the year for the google classroom code.
Looking forward to another amazing year!
Use the attached schedule to see what we are doing each day. I will periodically also add up units, fun information and updates about what we are studying!
Note: Graded work is handed back each Friday and important forms and notices from the Main Office are handed out on Thursdays!

Each month we learn the month’s poem from John Updike’s book A Child’s Calendar. We practice the art of reciting, performing and interpreting poetry as a part of public speaking and a way to build confidence! We use PV-LEGS to assess what makes a strong poetic performance:
P: POISE (posture and hands)
V: VOICE (volume and clarity)
L: LIVELY (enthusiasm and confidence)
E: EYE CONTACT
G: GESTURES (using hands or body to show the mood of the poem)
S: SPEED (pace- not too fast or slow)
We practice and recite our poem any free chance we get in class all month and vote on one representative at the end of the month to be recorded on the IPad. With parents permission, we hope to create a full school calendar video of the poems to share! Below you can find this month’s poem. Read it at home and see if you can practice together! Pass on the joy of beautiful poetry and performance!
