Monforton School Enrichment and Gifted & Talented (GT) Programs
We are excited to offer Enrichment (Grades 3–5) and Gifted & Talented (GT) (Grades 6–8) programs at Monforton School! We have been working hard to restructure these programs in an effort to better meet the needs of students who demonstrate exceptional ability or potential. Current 4th and 5th grade students who have previously been identified for Monforton’s GT program will continue to receive GT services through 8th grade.
Our goal is to provide challenge, enrichment, and acceleration beyond the general education curriculum through small group instruction, independent projects, and inquiry-based learning opportunities.
Enrichment Program (Grades 3–5) Identification Process
● Classroom performance
● Teacher and parent observations
● Creative or problem-solving assessments
● AimswebPlus scores — 99th percentile overall in reading and/or math, or 98th percentile in at least two domains for reading or math
Monforton School administers aimswebPlus assessments to all students in Kindergarten through 8th grade three times a year. This district-wide assessment measures math and reading achievement compared to students locally and nationally. To qualify for the Enrichment Program, students must score in the 99th percentile overall on aimswebPlus reading and/or math, or in the 98th percentile in at least two domains for reading or math.
Gifted and Talented Program (Grades 6–8) Identification Process
● Classroom performance
● Teacher and parent observations
● Creative or problem-solving assessments
● AimswebPlus scores — 99th percentile overall in reading and/or math, or 98th percentile in at least two domains for reading or math
● Naglieri General Ability Test (NNAT) — score of 130 or above
Please note that most high ability/high potential students will have their needs met in the classroom via our district’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), utilizing best instructional practices, differentiation and regular progress monitoring to ensure students continue to grow in their learning.
