Support Monforton Students – At No Additional Cost to You

What is the Innovative Educational Tax Credit?
The Innovative Educational Tax Credit is a Montana program that allows taxpayers to direct their state tax dollars to a local public school district of their choice.

Instead of your tax dollars being distributed statewide, you can choose to support the Monforton School District directly.

This is not a tax deduction. It is a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit, meaning your donation reduces your Montana state tax liability by the same amount (subject to state limits).

Why This Matters

Your participation:

• Keeps tax dollars local

• Directly supports Monforton students and classrooms

• Helps fund innovative programs that are otherwise difficult to support through traditional funding

Who Receives the Money

Monforton School District receives the funds directly.

How to Donate

To ensure eligibility for the tax credit, donations must be received by:

January 20, 2026 by 3:30 PM

Please bring or submit:

• A check payable to Monforton School District (dated in 2026)

• The following information is necessary to enter funds into the portal:

  • Last four digits of your Social Security Number or Federal EIN

  • Full Name

  • Mailing & physical address

  • Email address

    • Because the state tax credit is capped for the state and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, donations must be processed promptly.

What Happens Next

• On January 21, 2026, Monforton School District will submit the funds through the Montana Department of Revenue Education Donation Portal.

• If approved, you will receive a receipt directly from the Montana Department of Revenue.

• If the state cap of $7.2 million is reached before your donation is processed, the district will contact you to ask whether you wish to withdraw your donation. (This is unlikely, but not impossible).

How the Funds May Be Used (Per State Law)

Funds may support:

• Transformational learning opportunities

• Advanced academic opportunities

• Adaptive equipment for students with disabilities

• Technology enhancements

• Capital improvements and equipment necessary for innovative educational programs
